The act of caring for and valuing human beings is the leading banner of PRÓ-VIDA. This is because we understand that giving of oneself to others is the path to achieving harmony among different people. Driven by this reason and seeking to leave a mark on the path to building a better world, a Donation Ceremony was held on June 29 by the Central Geral do Dízimo PRÓ-VIDA (General Center for the Tithe – PRÓ-VIDA) (CGD-PV) and its affiliates in Brazil. The event took place at PRÓ-VIDA’s Headquarters in São Paulo.
The donation of 27,000 items to 9 hospitals and 13 other philanthropic institutions located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is facing difficulties due to floods, was formalized. Together, these institutions serve more than 220,000 people monthly.
The objective of these donations is not limited to the donated items – they do not definitively meet the needs of the organizations; new demands will come. The action seeks to set an example, which speaks louder than words, and to show that, for us, solidarity is the foundation of an altruistic society. It demonstrates that a person with greater consciousness of themselves and of their surroundings is capable of transforming their reality and naturally seeks to help the environment.
In this way, we understand that a human being first needs to discover themselves, leave selfishness, and walk towards integration with the Whole, as Mauro Cavalli, a representative of CGD-PV, said. “And that’s when they recognize that they are here, recognize who they are, what they’re doing, and what remains for them to do,” he said.
On behalf of the institutions, Dorali Plate, representative of Hospital de Caridade São Francisco, of Restinga Seca, and Lara Vieira, representative of Pio Sodalício das Damas de Caridade, of Caxias do Sul, expressed their thanks. “It’s not just about the material value, but how much this adds value within our organizations. And this moves us to do more and better each time. Because the greater the responsibility we take on, the more we’re recognized and respected through a donation (…),” said Lara.
The first donation of the CGD-PV was made by Dr. Celso Charuri in 1979. Since then, recognizing, through his example, the solution to achieving a peaceful world, thousands of participants in the movement have continued the work he started. Other Centers for the Tithe have been created. Currently, there are 24 in Brazil, in addition to Centers in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Italy, and Portugal, operating through anonymous, spontaneous, and voluntary donations. Over these 44 years, more than 13,000 charitable institutions have been benefited, covering nearly 12.5 million people in 21 countries, and 14 vocational schools have been built and delivered.
